SUMMARY:First Friday Artist's Reception
DESCRIPTION:The Artists' Gallery\, in Historic Downtown Ca on City\, is flinging open its doors on "First Friday"\, April 6th\, from 5 to 8 p.m.\, for a spirited evening of art\, hospitality and entertainment! Our Featured Artists for the month: Born and raised in Idaho\, Cathey Young has embraced Colorado as home\, and her paintings reveal her reverence for its beauty. The inspiration for Cathey's exquisite oil paintings is the serenity of nature\, particularly the light playing off water\; the shadows and reflections mesmerize her. Cathey exclaims\, "when there's nothing to be said\, only to look and let the beauty take your breath away!" This is what she hopes her paintings bring into the homes of their owners a sense of the beauty and serenity that she has intimately experienced. Patricia Rico and her husband retired from Georgia to the mountains of Colorado three years ago. Her 20-year love of pottery-making has since grown into a new business\, Wild Winds Pottery. Patty will be displaying new functional pieces designed for serving\, entertaining and baking. She glazes her charming ware in durable\, food-safe glazes with pleasing earthy hues. Patty declares\, "It's a great feeling to take a small part of our Earth and turn it into a functional pot that could very well last a century or more!" In memory of talented and prolific watercolorist\, George Douthit III\, we have assembled a small collection of some of his remaining paintings. A beloved husband\, father\, community member\, and respected artist\, George passed away in 2015 at the age of 87. Even in his final days\, he continued to paint\, creating a stunning legacy for his family to cherish and to share. George was also a writer and poet\; his books and distinctive note cards are available at the gallery. Please join us in appreciation and support of inspiring local art\, while engaging in community comradery! Enjoy live music performed by folk/rock guitarist/singer\, Tom Gudding\, and complimentary refreshments served by the artists themselves! The Artists' Gallery\, 416 Main St.\, Ca on City\, is open every day from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. For more information call (719)345-4070 or visit us on Facebook: www.facebook.com/TheArtistsGallery/.
