First Friday Artist's Reception

Ring in 2018 at The Artists’ Gallery! Join us for The Artists’ Gallery’s first art event of the New Year! On First Friday, January 5th, we cordially invite guests to our monthly artist’s reception from 5-8 p.m. Featuring the fabulous art of these two well-known local artists throughout the month: Award-winning painter, Ken McGowan, is a fourth generation native of Leadville, Colorado, living and working in Canon City. Ken received his B.A. in Art Education from the University of Colorado, Boulder, and subsequently earned his M.A. in Special Education from the University of Northern Colorado. He has been an educator for over thirty years. Currently, he teaches art classes designed for adults, sharing his expertise and passion with others. As Featured Artist, Ken is compiling an intriguing retrospective of his distinctive paintings in watercolor, acrylic and pastels, titled “A Creative Journey”. He is also planning to offer painting workshops in January: “Creating with Watercolor” and “Acrylic Painting”. Information and sign-up sheets are available at the gallery for interested adults. Laraine Wright, owner of Hanging by a Thread Beads, is an accomplished jewelry designer/artist. Laraine’s expertise is her skill in weaving impossibly tiny seed beads into remarkably complex jewelry designs. She incorporates her own original Southwest-style patterns into each piece, many with gorgeous natural stones, for a casual but sophisticated look. Her unique works of wearable art are desired by the most fashionable jewelry-lovers! Laraine will be giving a special demonstration during the evening of how she creates a woven “focal bead”! Share a fun and inspirational evening out with friends and family! Engage with the artists, and enjoy complimentary refreshments served by our member artists! Singer-guitarist, Tom Gudding, will entertain live with classic folk/rock songs. The Artists’ Gallery is located at 416 Main St. in Historic Downtown Canon City.
