First Friday Artist's Reception
Celebrate 2020 at The Artists’ Gallery on First Friday! You are invited to celebrate with us at The Artists’ Gallery on First Friday, January 3rd, from 5-8 p.m., for our first art event of the New Year! Converse with many of our member artists while enjoying complimentary refreshments! Singer-guitarist, Tom Gudding, will entertain with classic folk/rock music! We’re featuring the fabulous artwork of these three artists: Once she chose art as a career, Phyllis Waltman’s obsession with horses naturally became the primary subjects of her remarkable paintings. Phyllis says, “The camera is an essential tool which enables me to achieve detail and to capture fleeting moments in the life of horses.” She explains, “A few years ago I had the opportunity to spend a couple of summers observing horses in the wild, absorbing the importance of family, while watching the stallions trying to build and maintain their bands. There was no shortage of action! This presented a new side of the horse, giving me a deeper understanding and appreciation of them.” Paper Clay artist, Holliday Thompson’s parents were both artists and nurtured her artistic spirit from a young age. Earning a degree in graphic design and illustration from the Colorado Institute of Art, she became an illustrator. Over the last 20 years, Holli has developed a passion for the tactile and colorful art of Sculptural Paper Maché Clay. She loves the hands-on process of working with recycled paper, additives and found objects. Her 3-D masks, vessels and wall art hang in many private collections. She is constantly exploring this medium’s many possibilities. First influenced by her father’s art, Suzi Popkess has been painting for over 45 years. Concentrating her skills on scenes of Colorado, the Southwest, and Italian design, she renders splendidly rich landscapes and still-life paintings. Suzi says, “I especially enjoy working in watercolor medium for its deep earth tones and vibrant colors.” She is also a gifted silversmith and fashions exquisite jewelry! Suzi creates her paintings & silversmithing in her home studio in the country outside of Florence, where natural Colorado beauty inspires her artwork every day. The Artists’ Gallery, recipient of the 2019 Reader’s Choice Award for Fremont County’s Favorite Art Gallery, represents nearly fifty talented local artists.
