First Friday Artist's Reception
First Friday Frenzy on August 3rd The summer art walk season in historic downtown Cañon City is in full swing! Join us at The Artists’ Gallery on August 3rd, from 5 to 8 p.m., for our First Friday Frenzy artist’s reception, recognizing two of our amazing Featured Artists. We promise a great evening of creativity, entertainment and community interaction! Multi-talented artist, Marcão, will be presenting an exhibit he’s entitled “Luminous Flux”. In simple scientific terms, luminous flux is the measure of the rate of flow of luminous energy, measured in lumens, and evaluated according to its ability to produce a visual sensation to the human eye. Marcão will only reveal, “For the purposes of my exhibit, luminous flux pertains to the flow of light, not from my pieces, but through them.” Discover the surprise Marcão has in store—view his new work and discuss his artistic approach. Ron White gathered inspiration for his rock carvings on hiking trips to the backcountry of Utah, Colorado and the West, captivated by the ancient petroglyphs he viewed on remote canyon walls. For more than 25 years, Ron has worked to perfect his methods of replicating the aged “desert varnish” onto natural sandstone, then skillfully hand carving replicas of petroglyphs, as well as wildlife and contemporary images, onto the prepared stone. His splendid designs range from large custom wall panels, to unique sculptures and totem pendants, many hand-painted or embellished with small “treasures” he’s collected on his travels. Ron’s wife, Cathey, assists in the production and together they operate their art business, “Derived from Nature”. Internationally known woodcarver, Bob Dolata, will be exhibiting his artwork in our "Collector’s Corner". Bob has been carving for over 40 years and his pieces are treasured by many private collectors. When asked the secret to his work, he responded, "Good things come with patience—the creation is in the wood, just waiting to be discovered." Bring your friends and family for an inspiring evening and to support the arts in Southern Colorado! Chat with the artists, enjoy live jazz performed by “The Chris Hartung Trio, and complimentary refreshments served by our member-artists! Nearly 50 local artists are represented at The Artists' Gallery, offering quality original art and gift items.
