Rim to Rim Races
Starpoint’s 10th Annual Rim to Rim 5k/10k/half marathon races at the Royal Gorge Bridge and Park takes on a completely different look this fall. Many local events/fundraisers have been postponed or cancelled but this annual fall classic is still on the books as one of Starpoint’s biggest fundraisers. The key element to the venue this year – it will be virtual as are most races throughout the U.S. What does that mean to a registered runner? It simply means that you can run the required distance (5k/10k/half marathon) anywhere at any time from Oct. 3–17 and send in your time with a photo. Encourage your running friends to register and send in photos/video from participation around the world. Organizers are hoping they can add international to the title next year. Of course, there will not be any age bracket winners, overall winners’ prize money or bridge planks due to the difference in the race locations, altitudes or conditions. Each runner who submits his/her time will be awarded a certificate and a special, this year only hopefully, 2020 R2R “virtual” race t-shirt. The first 100 registered runners will also receive a Rim to Rim racing buff. Sneak peeks of the racing t-shirts and buff will be available on www.rimtorimroyalgorge.comsoon. Race registration is now live, http://www.rimtorimroyalgorge.com/ and is only $35 for either the 5k or 10k and $45 for the half marathon. A free kid’s race, a virtual Monster Dash is also available. The Royal Gorge Bridge & Park will also honor free admission to the park with the presentation of your racing bib beginning Sept.15 – Dec. 31. Family member admissions will also be half off when present with the registered runner through the end of 2020. Due to the pandemic, organizers will not be able to celebrate Jason Pederson’s 90th birthday. This would have been his third R2R 5k always traveling from Florida. He and his wife Claire were the first to register months ago. Organizers are still hoping for a birthday run Oct. 3 at the park with family celebrations.
